South Korea's military reported Monday that North Korea fired multiple ballistic missiles toward the sea off its east coast.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said one of the missiles flew more than 900km from the Pyongyang area, covering 559 miles. The military did not specify how many projectiles were detected in total.
Japan's coastguard also detected two unidentified projectiles on Monday. Officials believed these were ballistic missiles that appeared to have already fallen.
South Korea's presidential office said Pyongyang's repeated launches violate United Nations Security Council resolutions and urged an immediate stop.
The incident increases tensions on the Korean Peninsula as both nations continue conducting weapons tests.
